Medicine and Surgery

Program Overview

The Medicine Program at Sheikan College is designed to prepare safe, competent, and socially responsive medical graduates through an outcome-based curriculum aligned with national standards approved by the Sudan Medical Council and the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME). The program was developed in response to the growing health needs of Kordofan, Sudan and the Globe, including shortages in health professionals and the expansion of health services in the region. It combines strong scientific foundations, integrated organ-system learning, and clinical clerkships to prepare graduates for practice in local settings and to compete internationally.

Mission

The mission of the Medicine Program is to graduate safe medical practitioners who are able to practice locally and compete internationally, while remaining socially committed to serving the community through education and research directed toward community benefit.

Objectives

The program aims to: 

  • Graduate competent and safe medical doctors who are knowledgeable and committed to medical ethics and professional attitudes. 
  • Support the continuous professional development of health cadres. 
  • Foster teamwork and interpersonal communication. 
  • Contribute to improvement of the health system in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and related sectors. 
  • Support community development through health campaigns, health days, and collaborative community projects. 
  • Promote research focused on priority community health problems. 
  • Strengthen students’ skills in publication and scientific writing. 
  • Encourage evidence-based practice in teaching, learning, and healthcare.

Curriculum

Curriculum Map The curriculum extends over 10 semesters across 5 academic years and totals 200 credit hours. It is organized into three phases: 

  • Phase 1: Foundation phase, covering basic sciences and university requirements. 
  • Phase 2: Integrated organ-system phase from semester 2 to semester 6, including behavioral, social, and community courses. 
  • Phase 3: Clinical clerkship phase from semester 7 to semester 10. Duration

The Medicine Program is a five-year bachelor’s degree delivered over 10 semesters, with English as the medium of instruction.
